Our Wheat Grass and Barley Grass Powder is available as:
Barley Grass Powder, Wheat Grass Powder, and a 60/40% Mix of Wheat Grass & Barley
Grass Powder. Both are organically grown in non-

Did you know?
Cereal grass powders were the original vitamin
& mineral supplement
Cerophyl was the multivitamin of choice used by thousands of Americans, and prescribed by doctors for diseases caused by nutritional deficiencies in the 1940’s and 50’s. What was Cerophyl? It was simply dehydrated cereal grass!
You may also wish to consider AlkaVision GreenShield, a blend of Green Barley Grass, Wheat Grass and herbs with added Green Clay.
Many users of our cereal grass powders also mix Alfalfa Powder with it. In fact, you can mix your own green superfood blend from our Barley Green Powder, Wheat Grass and any of the other powders we sell.
The answer to this varies from site to site depending on which is being marketed. The answer below is taken from the information of a producer who grows and markets both:
“As far as the nutritional value goes, there is very little difference between the
two grasses. They have a virtually identical nutritional analysis. The difference
is purely in the taste. Barley grass is sweeter than wheat grass, which is slightly
more bitter.
Pure and simple!.”
Tray grown wheatgrass juice is a popular product in juice bars and health shops. If you are growing your own for this purpose, that's fine. However, most people do not realise that it has not reached its full nutritional potential.
Wheat grass is grown outdoors in it's natural climate. It has much higher levels of vitamins, minerals and chlorophyll than tray grown wheatgrass due to the significant differences in the growth process.
Tray grown wheatgrass is harvested after 7-
Wheat grass is grown outdoors for at least 200 days. This produces a much higher quality grass with a far better nutritional profile than tray growing can produce.
Both products are highly nutritional, but outdoor grown wheat grass powder is nutritionally superior, more convenient and about a third of the cost.
This page concentrates on barley grass and wheat grass from now on.
Wheat grass is usually autumn sown, driving its roots deep before the winter's dormant growth period. Whilst growth is at a minimum during winter the roots absorb valuable minerals and nutrients ready for the coming spring.
With warmer springtime temperatures the wheat plant converts sunlight into energy, and uses the nutrients stored in its roots to transform simple sugars into complex carbohydrates, vitamins, amino acids and other nutrients, resulting in lush, nutritious blades of grass.
The leaves reach their nutritional peak just before what is known as the jointing stage. After this the cereal grows rapidly and the nutrients stored in the leaves of the plant are used to grow the stalk and form the wheat grain. The best quality Wheat Grass is harvested just before the jointing stage, when the grass is at its nutritional peak.
The cut grass is dried within an hour or two of harvesting using low temperature drying equipment to preserve heat sensitive enzymes and nutrients. The best producers then store and process the dried grass in various ways that minimise the loss of freshness and potency.
Wheat Grass and Barley Grass harvested in this way should be considered green leafy vegetables. In fact, they are amongst the most nutritious green leafy vegetables available, in the same category as spinach, kale, and broccoli. However, they are much more convenient, and have a much longer shelf life than the greens most of us leave to wither in the fridge.
Eating greens every day is one action that, over time, is likely to have impressive positive impact on your health, hence the recommendation to eat 5 portions every day.
As most people do not eat as many green vegetables as they should on a regular basis, supplementing with a mixture of green superfoods, including barley grass or wheat grass makes good sense.
