Alfalfa for Pets and Animals

The ancient Arabs used Alfalfa as horse feed claiming that it made their horses faster and stronger.

They have never been proved wrong.  In fact Alfalfa, or Lucerne, is grown as a fodder crop all around the world and used for horse fodder, cattle fodder and animal feed for many other animals.  We have found it hard to find research articles on Alfalfa for human use, but that is certainly not the case where animals are concerned!

In fact , Yahoo lists over 78,000 hits on a narrow search on “alfalfa animal feed”.  A full search returns 572,000!  The count is  even higher if you substitute “pet food” for “animal feed”, so you can see that alfalfa is an accepted pet food ingredient.

Since Alfala has proven a nutritious and beneficial food crop for larger animals, it must be worth considering as a nutritious addition to pet food.
